Title
European climate and energy policy – illustration from Belgian and European situation
欧州の気候・エネルギー政策 ― ベルギーと欧州の状況から見る事例
Summary:
The international and European climate policy has an important impact on the energy policy of the EU member states and is driving investments in the energy sector and other industrial sectors.
There are opportunities and risks in transitioning to a green economy. While renewable energy is becoming cheaper, it faces issues like intermittency and storage limitations and new challenges like negative prices arise. Electrification is key to decarbonization, with technologies like electric vehicles and heat pumps offering significant efficiency gains. However, decarbonizing energy-intensive industries will be costly, requiring subsidies, carbon pricing, and infrastructure investment. Concerning molecules projects related to hydrogen, CCS and CCU are studied, but costs are often a limiting factor.
The war in Ukraine has resulted in other issues such as security and resilience also becoming important in the operation and further development of the energy sector in Europe.
The transition will have macroeconomic impacts, on competitivity of companies and affordability of energy for the final client. Public support is critical, requiring transparent communication about trade-offs and calibrated fiscal measures. Changing public opinion and policy changes worldwide put pressure on the energy transition.

Title
The future of textile research and education in Europe
欧州における繊維研究・教育の未来
Summary:
Since decades, the textile industry in Europe is facing fierce challenges. The industry can only survive by focusing on innovation in all aspects of products and operations.
Opportunities as well as challenges evolve extremely fast, requiring continuous adaptation and flexibility. Novel technologies open new horizons but cannot be implemented without sound research and proper training of employees in terms of knowledge but also skills. Universities and industry have to work together more than ever before. The presentation will highlight some examples of collaboration and valorisation of knowledge in industry
